Narrative Therapy Practices:

  • Migration of Identity;
  • Externalising conversations;
  • Problem-saturated stories;
  • Horses healing people;
  • Literary means to sober ends and the use of writing to discover unique outcomes and strengthen the alternative story;
  • Pastoral and spiritual stories;
  • Unique outcomes and thickening of the alternative story of hope, resistance and sobriety;
  • Artistic means to sober ends; and
  • Music therapy thickens the alternative story

A discussion will be held at the end of the presentation, with time allocated for queries

Dr Jo Viljoen obtained her doctorate in 2003, with the focus on narrative therapy. She has provided training for counsellors in numerous fields—including lay counsellors in churches. She was the clinical facilitator at Vista Clinic; where she was responsible for the therapeutic groups of patients, presented trauma therapy workshops, and presented life skills workshops. She is currently a therapist at Clearview Clinic.
